When travelling throuh Europe in 2011 Sean began drawing some of the local buildings.  He soon had a sketchbook full of stone structures. Relying on skills learned during intensive technical drawing and art classes at secondary school and univerisity he has developed a style capturing the detail and texture of stone buildings and structures.

A background in architectural design has given Sean an appreciation for the form and construction of traditional buildings and their materials. An interest in photography has sharpened his eye for the effect of light and shade as well as for composition.

A love of the stories told by the stonework of buildings repaired and rebuilt over centuries continues to influence a style founded on architectural representation.  The use of diffiring materials materials as available during a buildings life provides an architectural archeology, leaving traces of various owners throughout a buildings existence.

These buildings and structures inspire with a lack of precise geometry, rarely can one find perfectly straight lines or right angles.  Mismatched windows and irregular stonework tell of construction by hand alone, utilisings available materials.  Such construction methods challenge an artist with jagged edges, rambling roof lines and misleading perspective.

The dramatic play of light on beautifully rustic surfaces continues to inspire.

Working in pencil, charcoal, pastel, inks, oils and watercolour Sean is constantly exploring varied forms and subject matter.  As a lifelong sailor he is also fascinated by the sea, sky and elements.

Some of Sean's works, including giclee prints are represented in private collections in Australia and overseas.  Sean Lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
