With an avid interest in visiting Art Galleries, along with the encouragement of my father I commenced painting at an early age. I would consider myself primarily self taught, with attendance to workshops and current classes building on my techniques and skills that I will be able to employ as a developing artist.
Most of my paintings are of the land and seascapes genre within the locality of where I live. Sketching and photos of the subjects are done on location and painting is carried out at my studio. I look at ordinary everyday things for my subject material. It maybe a twisted tree or a weathered jagged rock that I find interesting against a complementary sky. Clouds I find have so much to offer in their form and character, however, I tend to use them to provide support to the subject rather than become the focal point. I also look for the excitement of light, mood and the dramatic forms in the sea and landscape to complete an interesting and well balanced painting.
