Peter Schmidli was born in Melbourne Australia. After graduating from Swinburne with a BA in Design in 1989, Peter worked as a freelance illustrator/ designer before teaching Art and Design over the last 23 years. During this time he explored a diverse range of media and techniques in his own art practice, investigating the potential of his artwork and a range of themes ranging from portraiture to abstract artwork.

Peter has recently found great interest in the field of landscape, exploring  light, texture and the aesthetic of the Australian environment.  Furthermore he explores humanity’s  relationship with the natural environment and the transient nature and impact of that interaction. Primarily using acrylic paint in a loose painterly style with both palette knife and brushes Peter explores impressionistic techniques to evoke energetic and mysteriously atmospheric scenes.
