Perry Sands, Wentworth, Nsw.

Description : The Perry Sandhills are a unique land formation of 333 hectares formed by wind erosion over thousands of years. One can only imagine the continuously shifting sand dunes to be reminiscent of much larger and better known deserts elsewhere in the world, but, amazingly, they are only a little over six hours drive from Melbourne. The ever-changing patterns in the sand create an interesting study for those photographers keen enough to make the difficult climb. Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm and mounted on 5mm white foam core board with a 3cm margin all around.

Neil's love of photography really began when, at the age of 16, he was offered a developing kit by a school class-mate. This resulted in many hours of fun developing and enlarging his own images.  Neil went on to study accountancy and during the ensuing years acquired a range of cameras starting with a Yashica 635 twin-lens reflex to a Sony A55 single lens translucent (DSLT) which he still uses today as a back-up for his more recently acquired Nikon D750 full frame.

In 2012 Neil joined the Maroondah Photographic Society (MPS) and in 2021 completed a two year stint as club president.  He has competed in club and interclub competitions amassing well over 300 award citations.  Despite his passion for portraiture Neil has also had a deal of success with other photographic genres, but especially landscapes and seascapes and loved to get away, sometimes into the most remote areas, where he could shoot at will. He has also had several acceptances at national and international level and in 2022 his "Sunrise at Bastion Point" was chosen by the Australian Photographic Society (APS) for the second year running to represent Australia in the 4 Nations Digital Exhibition along with Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.  More recently Neil was pleased to receive six (6) acceptances at the VIGEX International Print Salon.

In March 2022 immediately following Neil's first photographic exhibition, he underwent major spinal surgery and, whilst successful, believes that his subsequent mobility issues may now force him to contemplate a different genre such as urban landscape.

While he does not regard himself as a naturally gifted person Neil gives thanks for the enjoyment and success that his love of the art of photography has given him over the past six decades.  Rather than describing his style as traditional or classical, he prefers to use the term "non-contemporary", relying on the image from his camera, as opposed to extensive and, what one might call, "conceptual" post-processing.  Having said that, he does use Photoshop, albeit sparingly.  Neil has nothing against composites, layers and the like and one of these days might even relent, but, in the meantime, he focuses his attention on producing self-explanatory images which, hopefully, are pleasing to the eye of the typical photography admirer.

All prints offered for sale are printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag and mounted on 5mm white foam core board with a 3 or 4cm margin all around. Framing can be arranged by negotiation, if required.
