I am a former police detective having served 35 years in Victoria before retiring in 2015. I have, for many years dabbled in painting however up until retirement, life was too busy to engage in anything serious. I now have the time to devote to my passion and paint pretty much every day from my studio ("Art 61"). In 2015 myself and family relocated from the city to Torquay, which is situated on the sunny Surf Coast of Victoria.
My particular passion is seascape/landscape and there is no shortage of reference material being on the doorstep of the Great Ocean Road. I really enjoy painting "in studio" usually from photographs and my works gernerally lean more towards the photorealistic side.
My commission work has now gained some momentum as I steadily emerge as a Surf Coast artist. I derive a great deal of artistic satisfaction from replicating a memorable image for someone even more so than painting for my own pleasure. My commissions have included old farm houses; residential houses and particular coastal scenes. I’m happy to visit a site and take reference photographs if required. In a recent commission, I took a reference photo in winter and produced a painting depicting the same scene only with a summer morning feel.
In addition to painting I also enjoy digital photography using the photos I take as reference material for my paintings.
My early background was in wood machining and I use these skills to custom frame my own work.
