Laureen Knight is a Melbourne based artist, who began expressing her creativity through drawing and painting since childhood.
Various opportunities enabled her to develop calligraphy, chalkboard art, graphic art, theatre backdrops and mural painting for various individuals and organisations along the way. Eventually she was inspired to try her hand at watercolours and acrylic painting. The latter medium was enhanced at University (Primary Teaching, majoring in Art), under the watchful eye of Colin Johnson.
Family life and work caused intermittent commitment to painting and various art forms, but it could not disappear!
Watercolours have been the main focus, by taking time out at weekend workshops and short term classes to gain further knowledge and experience. She continues to enjoy painting seascapes, boats, Yarra Valley, landscapes, birds and challenges on canvas and paper. However, she now teaches in schools part time, to allow more time painting as a semi professional artist. This extra time has given her the opportunity to try her hand at paint-pouring techniques, thus indulging herself in lavish colours to produce abstract art.
Teachers of influence include:Australian watercolourists......... David Taylor, Malcolm Beattie, Herman Pekal and Greg Allen.
Laureen's work has been sold in Australian eastern States over the past 20 years, through shows, exhibitions, cafes, Facebook and Gallery247. She occasionally teaches drawing and painting to small groups and individuals. Additionally she does photography to compliment painting.
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to submit my artwork into the West Torrens competition. All the submissions were excellent and would like to see where this competition takes these artists. Again, thank you so much for your opportunity you give to all South Australians.
