Outback Australia

Description : Traditional colours have been used in non-traditional ways in my oil painting "Outback Australia", a no-holes-barred display of colour and light. This is an impressionism landscape to disappear into - there's lots to look at. Brushstrokes and palette knife create texture and layers, providing depth and warmth to the scene. I have painted this place many times - it is Roma Gorge, in the West Macdonnell Ranges, deep into the Northern Territory. The pond is full of minerals and has a lovely green tinge to it, while the bluest of blues skies sits heavy above the scene. The painting has framing wire and D-rings on which to hang the art, and is of course, ready to hang.

I was born into a highly creative family where live music, book signings and art exhibitions seemed to be a normal part of a child’s everyday life and upbringing. It was only natural that I eventually pick up the palette knife and put pigment to canvas. Today, I live entirely off-grid in a quirky house and garden, with my hubby and two dogs, on rambling acreage of bush, dust and stone. My days are spent at my art studio among gum trees, kookaburras, wallabies, and koalas (and the odd snake!).

You will rarely see me paint a landscape in the traditional sense. Instead, I prefer to get up close and personal with my subject, study its form and colour, its character and its flaws, and translate this impression into something new: cropped, colourful, suggestive, and alive.

So please, sit back, browse through my portfolio, and maybe one of my paintings will find its new home.
