Artist Bio: Ruby Dijkman |
My name is Ruby Concetta, I come from an Italian and Dutch background. My artwork means everything to me. It gives me peace in my crazy world of being a wife and mother of 4 young children. When I was young I always loved drawing or making knick-knack’s. I grew up with depression and often felt like there was no reason for me to be here. Having my children gave me a purpose although I used alcohol as a means of coping with the pressures of being a mother and to try to cover up my depression. I became very sick, physically and mentally and I realised I had to choose to let go of alcohol and face my demons. I returned to my art which has always been my anchor. I’m thankful that I love painting and drawing, to me it is a form of meditation and it helped me keep my mind off alcohol. I paint what I feel and I feel life is full of beauty but also ugliness. Bad and good, I guess you could call my art yin yang. You have to know bad to know good. Prints are available on www.rubyconcetta.com |
