I am a contemporary artist whose creative journey began with pencil sketches during my teenage years in China. After moving to Australia, I pursued a two-year Diploma of Art from RMIT in 2004. These formative experiences ignited a deep passion for the arts and expanded my skills in graphic design, photo styling, photography, and visual merchandising. Inspired by classical calligraphic techniques, particularly from my background in Chinese ink painting, I merge traditional art forms with a modern, dynamic approach. My work pushes the boundaries of the medium through bold, expansive compositions. I use sweeping, fluid strokes to evoke movement and energy, transforming each word or symbol into a powerful visual statement. My calligraphy is not merely decorative; it serves as a form of visual poetry, embodying deep cultural, philosophical, and emotional expressions. I explore themes of identity, spirituality, and the transformative power of art to inspire reflection and connection. In addition to my artistic practice, I continue to develop my pastel skills under the guidance of renowned Artist Sue Bayre who sadly passed-way 10 years ago. At the moment, I am taking on a water colour class with a local artist Mr. Jian Qiang Xu who based at Mt Waverley. Through his mentorship, I've gained a deeper understanding of how colour, shade, and texture can express emotion and mood. I strive to create artworks that resonate with viewers, leaving an impression that reminds us of the beauty and complexity of life. Vivien Yan Lu |
