ARTIST CV – Virginia McKenzie I was born two centuries to late, l have a long standing love of traditional portraiture. As an art student last century, all my tutors were disciples of abstract expressionism. So over the intervening years l have attended numerous classes/ tutorials and workshops to obtain the skills I wanted. Namely to paint like John Singer Sargent or Joshua Reynolds or sculpt like Rodin or Camille Claudel. I have sold many still life’s in local shops over the past years. Whilst living in Kyneton l focused on producing appropriately 30 busts of children and animals, using vintage daguerreotype and tintype photographs as my resource. Since moving up to Bendigo l have produced a number of oil painted portraits of children again using these 19th century photographs as my inspiration. During Covid my son and l took the opportunity to do a number of landscape paintings whilst exploring the Macedon Ranges area. He has gone on to be a very gifted landscape painter. My exhibition experience is very limited. I would love the opportunity to show my work alongside others.
