Artist Statement Early in 2013 Kerrie experienced a light bulb moment after forty years of drawing and portrait painting. A chance discovery of an online photograph by Danielle Hughson sparked an interest in a photographic effect called ‘bokeh’. In Japanese, bokeh translates to the aesthetic quality of the blur in an out of focus image. After communicating with the American photographer and experimenting with painting techniques, Kerrie purchased a Digital SLR to capture her own bokeh images. She uses oils to recreate Melbourne scenes of orbs and blur and invites the viewer to lose themselves in the union of darkness and light. |
