I was born 1964 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan (one of former Central Asian Republics of Soviet Union). My art training began at Benkov Art College, and then I continued my art education at the Tashkent University of Theatre and Arts. In my training I had an opportunity to copy from the old masters, and learn their techniques at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. In the 1990 USSR Academy of Arts Graduation Works Exhibition my work was awarded the Bronze medal. The year 1991 was an eventful one for me. Married, watched the dissolution of the Soviet Union and moved to Australia. My art took a stand still as the years became devoted to family and community. As they do, children grow up. I delved back into the world of art but not quite like before. My experiences have pushed me to experiment, employing classical training in a contemporary manner. Through my portraits, I endeavour to capture a moment of reminisce of the person’s past experience.
