Empowered Grace

Description : A Black Swan signifies an insight about yourself which changes your position from one of victim to victor. The Black Swan is a graceful reminder to move from any position where you feel powerless and at the mercy of external forces; it is now time to reclaim your personal power. The swan has always been known for its purity, beauty, grace, love and elegance, keeping in mind that swans are connected with water and can symbolize creativity. So this is why this painting of the black swan means so much to me, I am at another chapter of my life where I finally say good bye to the past and the toxicity it holds for me to the very bright future where like the Black Swan that was supposed to be impossible...... I’m possible Dating back 2000 years to Roman poet Juvenal, that swans are invariably white. Like purple cows and flying pigs, the black swan was a symbol of what was impossible. In medieval Europe, unicorns had more credibility. Dutch navigator Willem de Vlamingh, by finding black swans in Western Australia in 1697, showed how risky it is to declare something impossible. The first specimen was brought to the UK in 1791 and the swans became popular additions to private collections and zoos. They were brought to the UK as ornamental birds like peacocks and golden pheasants. Like many other captive birds, they occasionally find their way out into the wild. In adult Black Swans the body is mostly black, with the exception of the broad white wing tips which are visible in flight. The bill is a deep orange-red, paler at the tip, with a distinct narrow white band towards the end. Younger birds are much greyer in colour, and have black wing tips. Adult females are smaller than the males. Black Swans are found throughout Australia with the exception of Cape York Peninsula, and are more common in the south. The Black Swan has been introduced into several countries, including New Zealand, where it is now common, and is a vagrant to New Guinea.

Catherine Barolo is a self taught artist living in Melbourne, Australia.

Catherine has been drawing ever since she was little.  A quiet child who would draw for hours and hours escaping life in the 1970's suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia.

Her paintings and stories were full of fairies, goblins and all types of animals, flowers and mythical creatures she would make up from her fantasy world she loved and imagined until....life happened!

Fast forward to 2022 and Catherine is happily married with 4 almost grown children and her dog Coco.  It has only been in the last two years Catherine has found time to concentrate on her art.  Catherine is a self taught artist and has exhibited her work in Melbourne and continues to sell her original paintings, prints and commissioned art through her website.  Catherine either works off her own photos or asks photographers permission to use their photos as reference.  Catherine loves to paint in acrylic and now teaching herself to paint digitally.  Each painting is carefully thought and planned out, subject, colour and composition to tell its unique story all in as much detail as she can.
