The Low Burn

Description : This is a different version of another painting of mine called 'The Cool Fire'which has been sold. I read a very interesting article by Mr Glen Kelly, about the Aboriginal community’s vast knowledge about using fire as one of the main tools in caring for Country. Mr Kelly is a member of the Nyungar Community, the traditional owners of south-west of Western Australia. In his article, ‘Karla Wongi Fire Talk’, a Nyungar perspective on forest burning’ Mr Kelly talks about ‘Cool Fires’, burns of lower intensity, the most common use of fire for land management. This method doesn’t damage upper layers of the forest and if performed correctly, provides rich food and diverse re-growth.
I wanted to pay tribute to Mr Kelly, his very interesting article, the Nyungar people and all our Aboriginal communities by painting this painting.

Welcome to my artwork

I'm a visual artist, specialising in watercolour; I also work in charcoal and pastel and write poetry.

I started painting in England where I grew up and now live in Melbourne Australia; however my subject and client-base is international.

I love watercolour!  To me, the subtlety and drama of watercolour, its beauty and depth captures the world we live in like no other medium.

I believe that, just as we have character, so do trees, clouds and the earth.  A tree can be strong, willowy or majestic; clouds can be threatening, soft or peaceful. Watercolour is so vibrant that it can catch these nuances.

My paintings are free-flowing whereas my poems are sharp, quick and intense - whether full of laughter or pain.

I feel very privileged to be able to connect with you in this way.  Thank you for looking at my work, I hope it gives you joy and feeling.
