Distant Plains

Description : Distant Plains by Alpana Rai is inspired by the rich and vibrant tones of the Australian landscape and the changes of light and mood throughout the day. With a process rooted in instinct and intuition, Alpana’s images typically begin from a desire to interpret a specific situation or locality. While layering and mark making techniques are utilised to achieve dimension and form, expressive brushstroke work and highly impactful colours are incorporated to invoke a rushing, rhythmic movement and flow. Pieces are worked and reworked in an effort to capture the experience until, eventually, the paint offers up its own conclusions, which Alpana routinely develops into the work’s ultimate expression. **Painting is Not Framed. **This is Original Art By Alpana Rai About Artist: With a blend of bold, bright and contrasting colours, Alpana Rai’s work, much like her background, is diverse, multi-layered and passionately creative. Migrated to Melbourne‚ Australia over 10 years ago from India. I grew up with an immense love for art painting and am self taught. Being an Australian with an Indian heritage gives me the vast background of the best of both worlds inspiring me, which I incorporates in my work proudly. I look for original and unusual ways to translate the images in my head onto the canvas. I embraces a passionate, intuitive approach to painting. Rather than subscribing to rigid techniques, I let colours and emotions guide my creative process. I love bright colours and building many many layers. I work on a series of paintings at the same time and begin with no end point in mind which allows each painting to develop its own unique history. As layers build, this tougher base allows me to sand and scrape back revealing previous colours and this keeps a sense of surprise and spontaneity in the finished painting. At the start I paint intuitively, adjusting the composition and choosing bold and contrasting colour. At some point there will be a moment where the painting starts to make suggestions and I have to ‘catch’ the clues it’s giving me. I have done in electronics and communications but has chosen to pursue my passion of art using acrylic and mixed media. Being able to express myself through Arts is a great pleasure. I would like to share my art work with art lovers to cherish the beauty around us.
